A pen turning mandrel greatly assists with making an extensive range of both ball-point and ink fountain pens and also propelling pencils. They are available with Morse Taper drive ends in either Morse #1 or #2 sizes to suit lathes with an industry standard tapered swallow. For applications with a lathe lacking a tapered drive head but able to be fitted with a self centering chuck with jaws closing sufficient to grip the shaft of the mandrel with the morse taper drive end removed the use of a mandrel for pen making is also possible.
