A customer of ours recently purchased some of our Pure Tung oil to treat his new Flow Hive.  For those unaware the Australian invention of the Flow Hive which in essence involves putting a tap on a bee hive to extract the honey in a manner safer for both the beekeeper and the bees, has been an international sensation.

The makers use Western Red Cedar for the hives which is renowned for its durability when used outdoors.  The manufacturers recommend tung oil as the treatment for the hives.  Pure Tung Oil is the perfect choice for this application for several reasons;  it is organic, non toxic, refurbishable and a superb sealer for wood in pretty much any situation. It is important to stress that the product should be the real McCoy. The majority of commercially formulated products claiming to be tung oil have extender oils, dryers - all of which are more or less toxic - and anti fungals to counter the use of the extender oils. Many of these products have as little as 10% tung oil content.
